Youth Ministry Volunteer Commitment Letter
Volunteer Youth Leader Policy
● Volunteers will be Committed Participants or Active Participants who have made a
profession of faith in Christ and signed our Belief Statement.
● Volunteers will be chosen by the Elders after an evaluation of their character,
commitment, and calling to the ministry. Volunteers will have submitted background
clearances. Persons who have a criminal sex offense history or a pattern of immoral
sexual behavior will not be eligible to work with teens.
● Volunteers will commit to interact with the teens as a whole and individual teens with
the same love, respect, gentleness, and fairness that God has shown His people.
● Volunteers will be arranged for all meetings and activities in order to maintain at least
one male volunteer and one female volunteer (these could include church staff, teen
parent, or other approved church volunteers). This does not pertain to events
designated as male only or female only.
● Volunteers will avoid fostering an inappropriate emotional connection with teens of the
opposite gender that could be misunderstood as a sign of intimacy.
● Volunteers will avoid inappropriate physical contact with teens of the opposite gender
that could be misunderstood as a sign of affection.
● Volunteers will avoid being left alone with a teen of the opposite gender (i.e. in a
separate room, in the building or outside after a meeting, in a car, etc.).
● Volunteers will take reasonable precautions to protect the physical safety of the teens,
and in the event of an injury the church will not hold the volunteers liable.
● Volunteers who are transporting teens in their vehicles will receive verbal or written
permission from the parents ahead of time (permission slips will be used for off-site
events). Vehicles will be loaded, so that no individual males or females are in a vehicle
with the opposite gender.
● Volunteers, and all opportunities and responsibilities in ministry, will be coordinated by
the Associate Pastor and overseen by the Associate Pastor and the Elder Team.
